Ben is a partner in our London tax team and responsible for the London corporate tax practice. He specialises in and has wide experience of the taxation issues relevant to international and domestic corporate transactions and the commercial activities of corporate entities.
Ben’s recent experience includes advising the Chinese National Nuclear Corporation on its investment in the £16bn development of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant; advising Reckitt Benckiser plc on the disposal of global Scholl footwear business to private equity investor Aurelius; advising Dairy Crest on the £344m disposal of its French dairy business to Montagu Private Equity; advising US technology investor Accel-KKR on a series of investments across Europe and the Middle East; advising renewable energy investors on investments across Europe, Africa and the Middle East; advising Siemens AG on a US$1bn joint venture with the Wood Group; advising Warranty & Indemnity insurers on M&A and tax insurance risks; advising Anglo American on a £2bn joint venture with LaFarge; advising Cisco Systems on its $5bn acquisition of software company NDS; advising May Gurney on its £221m takeover by Kier Group; advising funds managed by Savills Investment Management on the acquisition of City office property through unit trust holding structures.
Ben has particular expertise advising in respect of all types of private equity investment, acting both for management and for private equity sponsors such as H2, Sovereign, Inflexion, CBPE, LDC, ECI, Equistone, Electra and others.
Ben regularly provides expert commentary on tax issues in the international press, with interviews on the BBC and Bloomberg TV and coverage in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, Reuters, the Times and the Telegraph.
Ben also lectures tax professionals on taxation issues at the University of Law.
