EARLY YEARS
The training contract
Our commitment to structured supervision and positive coaching means we can (and do) allow our trainees the opportunity to express themselves through meaningful roles in transactions, disputes and in developing client relationships. We see the training contract as an essential part of your apprenticeship for learning the key skills you’ll need as a qualified solicitor at Eversheds.
Post qualification
On qualification, you will focus on getting under the skin of your chosen area of specialism. This is when your specialist learning begins. Again, a commitment to supervision and coaching in a team-orientated environment will ensure you are supported but not suffocated.
The difference between life as a trainee and as a newly qualified (NQ) lawyer is the degree of involvement in, and accountability for, the work you do in your chosen area. From day one, you are establishing and developing your experience, credibility and relationships with those around you. Every piece of work matters because you’re putting in place the building blocks of your career.
At NQ level, our focus is on making sure you are getting hard-edged experience of legal work. You become an integral part of the team you qualify into. You’ll be expected to understand the market in which you work and appreciate what motivates the people in that market – whether clients, intermediaries or competitors.
After two years as a trainee, you’ll be running your own transactions and have established a meaningful network of contacts. Whilst supervision remains a fundamental principle, your individuality should begin to come through in the way you deliver your service to clients.
