THE TRAINING CONTRACT
Being a trainee at Eversheds is your chance to develop the skills and experience you need to be a fully qualified lawyer. It’s our chance to give you the training that will last you a lifetime. Every one of our recruits receives a high level of supervision with our aim being to retain all our trainees on qualification. During each seat of your training contract, you’ll have a supervisor who will give you regular feedback. You will also receive formal feedback through an appraisal system that takes place in the middle and at the end of each seat.
Your training contract would consist of four seats of six months each, over two years. At least one seat must be in a contentious area. As part of your training contract, you can also apply to do a secondment either at a client office or in our Paris or Shanghai offices.
We’ll talk to you about how you see your future developing and if you have any strong preferences for any seats. We recommend trying as wide a variety of seats as possible, but if there’s one you really want to experience, then we will do our best to accommodate you.
However, from experience, we know it’s always best to keep an open mind. Trainees are often surprised to discover that a seat they dreaded turned out to be their ideal choice. Studying a subject and practising it can be very different.
Once you qualify, you’ll be able to apply for any of the vacancies on offer. In most cases, trainees remain in the same office when they qualify. However, some move to one of our other many offices and we do all we can to accommodate such requests.
