Personal perspective
Antony Walsh, Senior Associate
"When I was being interviewed by several firms, Eversheds really stood out for me. It appeared to strike the balance between big ticket work for well respected clients and being a place that employed people who I could see myself being friends with. I am delighted to say that I continue to hold that view, hence I have never looked back (nearly ten years in).
"Currently I am working on a major energy sector disposal, two strategic equity investments and a significant Hong Kong based joint venture. This mix of work provides genuine stimulation and a fantastic grounding in a spectrum of international corporate work.
"People here are approachable at all levels - I can honestly say I have never been made to feel like I am a less important member of the team compared to, say, a partner. Eversheds is not stuffy in any way. If someone has a good idea then they are given the support they need to see it through. I have been involved in certain initiatives that have felt groundbreaking, like I am really making a difference to the wider business. That is an empowering experience and, from feedback I get from my peer group elsewhere, not one that is necessarily commonplace in law firms. Eversheds is a very entrepreneurial business.
"I don't think anyone could spend all day in a job if they weren't challenged by the work. So, I would have to say that it is the quality of work that is consistently put my way that is what keeps me going. Cliché I know, but no two days are the same - I plan my workload as well as I can, but there is always some grenade to throw myself on top of. It certainly keeps me on my toes.
"I have done several international secondments, to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Qatar, as well as a strategic internal secondment to support a particular innovation project. As such, I have made good friends around many of our offices. Very few corporate transactions are solely UK based nowadays. I am on the phone to colleagues in Paris, for example, as often as I am to my commercial colleagues on the floor above me. A very significant proportion of my job involves co-ordinating international work.
"You should join Eversheds if you enjoy working hard and have a ‘can do' approach, want to be working for household name clients, thrive in a team environment, want opportunities to travel and/or work in-house, and consider yourself to be a grounded and well-rounded individual who wants to work in an environment of mutual respect and (dare I say) fun.."
