Human resources group

Eversheds' human resources group advises financial institutions and government bodies on employment law and pensions. Ours is the biggest department of its kind in Europe. Work ranges from pensions to employment tribunals; we run specialist training courses in employment law, pensions law and HR consultancy.

If you joined our human resources group you would be working for the largest and most respected team of employment and pensions lawyers in Europe. We advise the biggest names and handle the headline cases.

We've built our reputation on being able to solve our clients' problems, both those they face on an everyday level and also major projects that require specialist advice. We cover all the issues thrown up by employment and pensions as well offering a thriving training and consultancy service. Our people also specialise in sectors in order to fully understand and deliver the right advice to their clients.

What kind of individuals are we looking for? Obviously you have to be a technically talented lawyer, but the Eversheds approach is also about working closely with the client and building a great relationship with them. You will have to be a people person in a people industry. Commercially aware and pragmatic, you need the ability to get under the skin of an organisation and understand the unique challenges it faces. Our clients don't usually ask for reams of technical advice. They want their problem solved in the best possible way.

You'll really get the chance to use your legal ability in a practical way. You'll be supported by great colleagues and all the resources you need. Thanks to our sophisticated training resources you'll also be able to develop the skills you choose to develop and explore the areas you want to explore. The clients you work for won't be small, but they will be demanding. However, you'll find yourself doing the work that really interests and stimulates you. Eversheds truly offers a fantastic career for talented human resources lawyers.

Personal perspective

Charlanne Hodgkinson, Solicitor

"I qualified and practised as a corporate lawyer before joining Eversheds in 2004 to specialise in pensions law. I now work as part of an international law firm and within the largest pensions team in the country; a team which is going from strength to strength. My job involves advising companies and trustees on a range of pensions issues, both on those impacting on corporate deals and on more specific 'pure' pension matters.

"You may assume that pensions law is quite dry but it is now often in the forefront of corporate deals; pensions issues can determine whether a deal goes ahead or not. My job is challenging, often complicated and, believe it or not, exciting.

"When deciding which firm to join, Eversheds' reputation for quality work and service made it the obvious first choice. I also knew people who worked for Eversheds and I was able to see how much they enjoyed it and the positive working environment.

"As you might expect, many of us are ambitious and want to progress through the ranks. Eversheds aims to help everyone develop their talents and will ensure that you are made aware of the criteria you need to fulfil in order to build your career. The firm is keen to help you achieve your goals. It is a two-way process, requiring commitment on both sides. Training, of course, is key to developing technical and soft skills. Whilst you will learn 'on the job' you will be encouraged to attend training courses that are relevant to your development within the business.

"No matter at what level of qualification you join Eversheds, it is clear that if you come with the right attitude your skills will develop and you will be given the opportunity to shine and grow. The opportunities are there for the taking; come and see..."

Karina Prestt, Solicitor

"I joined Eversheds because it has an excellent reputation for quality work, which was backed up by talking to friends I already knew here.

"I'm working on a mixture of things for the education sector at the moment. There's general everyday employment advice, tribunals, training sessions and more strategic advice. It's very varied and interesting.

"It's a hard working but down to earth environment. Extremely professional but also fun. For the size of the firm you don't feel as though you're just a small part of it. The friendliness of the people and their attitude ensures that isn't the case.

"You should join us for the people, the quality of work and the resources available. There is also an attitude of wanting to constantly move forward, innovate and keep ahead of the times. Eversheds is a great move for anyone."
