Expansion in the UK and internationally
Food markets in Continental Europe are highly attractive. The biggest European economies all share the same characteristics: a large population, strong purchasing power, and a food retail market that is relatively under-branded compared to that of the UK. This presents huge opportunities for food retailers looking for ways to expand their businesses in a time of increased competition coupled with slowdown in consumer spending and increased pressure on prices.
Our food practice offers vast experience of distribution and trading structures with a hands on approach. We act for many leading domestic and global food retailers, both in the UK and overseas through our network of offices, including those entering the more challenging markets such as China, Eastern Europe and the US.
We can advise you at every stage based on our knowledge and experience of the food market in each country. We can help you to identify a network structure that suits you, whether by integration or franchise, distribution, agency or other method. We will assist in the acquisition or the letting of your property portfolio and guide you through the local regulatory environment. We will work with you in relation to HR matters and support you with regard to product liability and brand protection issues.
We typically counsel on the most appropriate strategic options available before preparing model structures and later handling the roll-out. Much of our work is in international expansion and involves the preparation of agency, distribution, franchise and management agreements and the negotiation of national or regional development agreements, joint ventures and hybrid structures.
