Structured finance/ debt capital market
Today’s challenges
Over the last few years we have seen an extremely liquid debt finance market helping to facilitate deal doing and corporate funding. Structures have increased in complexity as funders have attempted to gain an edge over the competition. An ever increasing range of investors have meant even more innovative financing solutions particularly on the asset backed side. Capital markets funding has been readily available for entities looking for a diversified debt financing package or looking to fund acquisitions in the most cost effective way.
However, the credit squeeze has seen a dramatic change in the market and a sharp reduction in investor appetite. Debt issuance has dropped whether on the investment grade or structured side. However, we are seeing an increase in the number of private placement opportunities for investment grade corporates as debt financing from banks at competitive pricing also becomes more difficult.
How we can help
At Eversheds we have a team of lawyers with significant expertise in capital markets transactions including vanilla debt (whether public or private placements), convertible or securitisations. We have a particularly strong track record in assisting our corporate client base with capital markets work (including private placements) and a niche expertise in the origination of real estate finance transactions for securitisation conduits.
