Energy – a growth market
The upsurge in the number of energy projects reflects both the increasing demand for energy and also the desire to deliver it in a more responsible way in order to reduce emissions and the impact on climate change. The next fifteen years will see huge investment in this sector.
Eversheds' construction and engineering team is an integral part of the energy sector group and is divided into specialist sub-sectors:
Nuclear
We have built up formidable experience in the nuclear sector, acting for many of the major players. For more than 20 years we have acted on engineering and construction projects at sites of nuclear plant throughout the UK. Our team has detailed knowledge of decommissioning, new build, funding and contract structures. Understanding the legal framework and obligations in such a heavily regulated industry in the public eye is an essential requirement to delivering the necessary legal expertise to the Tier 1, 2 and 3 Contractors as well as to reactor suppliers and vendor operators.
Oil and gas
The oil and gas industry is undergoing huge changes in terms of technologies, which in turn are generating enormous engineering projects. With offices in countries like Qatar, we are involved in many of the projects associated with the new technologies as well as the more traditional work generated by the upstream and downstream infrastructure. As these projects take on an increasing international flavour, we are used to working cross-border and delivering projects through careful negotiations, a thorough knowledge of contractual, financial, regulatory and environmental issues, together with an understanding of the cultural and political influences at play.
Clients
We act for governments, public bodies, multi-national and major national corporations, banks, funders, international contractors, specialist sub-contractors, suppliers and design consultants. This experience, combined with our specialist sector knowledge, gives us a unique insight into understanding the commercial objectives of different parties engaged in energy projects.
