Utilities

We specialise in drafting bespoke alliancing and framework agreements between utility companies and their consultant and contractor partners. We work closely with our clients to develop, where appropriate, multi-level incentivisation arrangements in order to facilitate the continued cost savings required by the statutory regulators governing the relevant utility sectors. We also advise on the terms of the individual project contracts awarded under such framework and alliancing agreements based upon amended versions of industry standard form contracts including the NEC, ICE and IChemE forms.

Within our construction and engineering team we have dual qualified solicitors and engineers, including a solicitor who worked within the water sector for ten years. This specialist industry knowledge significantly assists our ability to work with our clients in formulating and delivering appropriate procurement strategies in order to achieve their critical outputs.

How we can help

We advise some of the UK's largest regulated water and sewerage companies, as well as electricity and gas transmission and distribution companies on the procurement of their infrastructure investment programmes. For example, our team members have advised one of the main ten water and sewerage companies in England and Wales on the procurement of the whole of their £1 billion capital investment programme relating to the design and construction of water treatment works, sewage treatment works, water pipeline networks, developer services and major one-off special projects. In relation to gas, we have advised on major gas transmission pipeline projects and related infrastructure works.

Training

We provide our utilities clients with training for their staff who will be required to operate the contracts we draft in order to enhance our clients' ability to effectively project manage their procurement programmes. For example, we provide training in relation to the NEC and ICE forms of contract incorporating our recommended project specific amendments.
