Give & Gain / Volunteering Month 2011

Throughout June 2011, colleagues from across Eversheds got involved in a range of volunteering activities in and around their local communities. Almost 400 people from 14 offices took part in more than 40 volunteering projects during the month.

A particular highlight was Business in the Community's Give & Gain Day (24 June in UK and 6-24 June globally), which we co-sponsored this year with HP and Lloyds Banking Group. Give & Gain Day engaged a total of 24,248 employee volunteers from 532 organisations participating in 16 countries throughout the world. This represents over £2.9m of support to those communities most in need, with over £1m going directly to schools and community groups in the UK.

Colleagues in London participated in a whole host of activities on Give & Gain Day, ranging from a BTCV gardening project at Lavender Pond, to ‘behind the scenes' visits at our London office for students from Link and Highshore Schools and Walworth Academy. Eversheds teamed up with Lloyds Banking Group and BDO for the Community Games, a sports day held at Britannia Leisure Centre, Hackney. Children from more than eight different schools in the local community met and teamed up to compete in sports such as judo, rugby, football, badminton, athletics and boxing.

In Paris, five Eversheds volunteers went to Corot Entraide, an organisation which supports homeless and disadvantaged young people and families. They participated in a cookery workshop with some of the families, and also helped to box up items which had been given to Corot for distribution next Christmas.

Staff in the Milan office donated eight used computers to Cova school, where they will be used by the students. They also held a ‘cake day' each Monday during June when colleagues sold homemade cakes and desserts in the office to raise funds for the Banco Alimentare Foundation, which distributes food to the needy.

Success means much more than just the services we provide our clients. As part of Volunteering Month, we pledged to give some of our time back to the communities that we operate in. As a result, our third annual Give & Gain day was an overwhelming success, not just in the UK, but across the international offices."
