Eversheds International
Global homeThe Selection Process - what to expect
While many trainees have studied law, we welcome applications from all degree disciplines. The reason is simple. The trainees from a non-law background bring a wealth of alternative experience that can only benefit a growing and diverse firm like ours. You may have a background in business, a degree in an exacting science, a knowledge of foreign languages, a record of holding positions of responsibility - whatever your strengths, whatever your aptitudes, we want to hear from you.
We offer funding for candidates studying the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), including payment of full fees and a maintenance grant of £7,000 (£5,000 outside London). Non-law candidates will need to successfully complete both the GDL and Legal Practise Course (LPC) before starting on a training contract. Law graduates complete just the LPC.
Vacation Scheme
We run two-week vacation placement schemes in our offices (please check our Events Calendar for precise dates and locations). Placements offer a great opportunity to get a real feel for what Eversheds is all about, and to experience the kind of work we do. In fact, most of our vacation students are amazed at the variety and level of work they can get involved in. You'll have opportunities to go to court, meet clients, assist with research and draft documents - and meet partners, solicitors and trainees in a social setting. You will also get to take part in one of our many corporate responsibility projects and attend a range of informal talks to discover more about Eversheds, our practice areas and our people. You will be paid £240 a week (London) or £175 a week (Regions). We welcome applications from penultimate year students as well as candidates who've already graduated or taken different career paths.
You can apply on-line from 11 October 2011 - 31 January 2012. This will involve completing the application form in the first instance. Depending on the outcome of your application, you will be invited to take a situational judgement exercise. This will help you decide whether Eversheds is the right place for you, and it will give us an insight into how well you might fit into our firm. If successful at this stage, you will be asked to complete a numerical reasoning test. Perform well in this and you will then be asked to compete a verbal reasoning test as well. You will then be asked to complete a short telephone interview. All shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with one of our partners. Successful candidates who do exceptionally well on the vacation scheme may be offered a future training contract.
Direct Application for a Training Contract
If you have finished your degree and are available to join us in 2014 , you should apply directly for a training contract. As with applications for the Vacation Scheme, you will need to complete the application form first and - depending on the outcome of your application - you will be asked to complete a situational judgement exercise. If successful at this stage, you will be invited to complete a numerical reasoning test. Perform well in this and you will then be asked to compete a verbal reasoning test as well.
If you are shortlisted you will then be invited to complete a telephone interview, followed by a face to face interview in the office you have applied to. The final stage is an Assessment Centre. This will allow you to demonstrate your skills in different situations while also giving you the opportunity to get to know us better. We hold sessions at our offices around the UK. You will receive further information on this closer to the time of the assessment. We'll let you know the result as soon as possible. Please check the Events Calendar for precise assessment centre dates.
