Central Government

Introduction

Challenges facing central government organisations

The work of government is characterised by change, and increasing complexity. These characteristics, together with other influences, means that demands placed upon the Government Legal Service are ever more stretching and challenging.

Our aim is to complement the services provided by the Government Legal Service and the nature of this support varies. It may comprise the provision of resource to cope with overspill, the provision of bespoke legal teams to manage and handle 'one-off' pieces of work, or the provision of specific expertise that may not be generally available within the Government Legal Service.

Against this background, Eversheds has developed a central government sector group which brings together lawyers from across our firm (including ex-Government Legal Service lawyers) who are experienced in acting for central government departments and bodies so that we can share insights, know-how and best practice for the benefit of this important sector.

Our aim, always, is to work with our government clients and the Government Legal Service, and to provide advice that is legally sound, clear, and useful.

How we can help

As a full-service domestic and international law firm, Eversheds is able to provide advice on many different areas which a government department or other body for whatever reason, chooses to engage external legal resource.

An indication of the breadth and depth of the firm's expertise is the fact that Eversheds is only one of nine law firms to hold a place on the 'Buying Solutions' (formerly Catalist) 'full commercial' and 'major projects'   Legal Framework panels .  This means we are considered as being competent to advise on   IT, telecommunications and e-commerce, property and estates, construction, employment and pensions, corporate and finance, intellectual property. It also means that we are considered to have the expertise and resources which are necessary to support public sector projects worth in excess of £100m or which require major resource.

Reflecting the nature of the sector, we act for a broad range of clients, from Whitehall departments to non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs); from public corporations to executive agencies and trading funds.

We also act for an increasing number of overseas governments, where we adopt the same approach.
