How we can help you deal with the deficit and service transformation
Following the Chancellor's emergency Budget delivered on 22 June 2010, the impact on the health sector is continuing to emerge.
The Budget revealed that public sector net borrowing will be reduced from £149 billion this year to £20 billion in 2015-16. The Coalition Government have committed to protect frontline health services. The NHS is under pressure to make efficiency savings in the region of £15 billion to £20 billion by 2014. It is proposed that the way that health services will be commissioned and delivered in the future should change fundamentally, as outlined in the White Paper recently issued on NHS Reform. These proposals include the abolition of the Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care Trusts.
Issues facing NHS Trusts
There is no doubt that NHS organisations remain under considerable pressure to reduce the cost of services which is likely to mean that support and management costs will have to be reduced if frontline services are to be protected.
Issues facing Trusts include:
- staffing issues
- redundancies
- changing terms and conditions of service
- strikes and industrial action
- estates rationalisation and efficient use of assets
- shared service and strategic partnerships
- private sector outsourcing
- pensions issues
- challenges to achieve the green agenda
How we can help
Given the extent of the proposed changes, many Trusts face uncertainty as to how to tackle these issues.
We recognise that there is no common set of problems for each NHS organisation, still less a common solution.
Eversheds' Healthcare team has a track record of advising the NHS, as well as private sector health operators on all of the issues that you are likely to encounter. We work with you to consider the issues and options and identify the right solutions for you.
The tip of the iceberg
These issues are only the tip of the iceberg, so do contact an expert for further information and advice. Not only do we advise NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations, we can advise on similar issues affecting central government, education and local government.
