Scheme governance
The challenge for trustees
Trustees are responsible for ensuring that their scheme is run properly and in accordance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework. This can be a real challenge given the volume and complexity of pensions legislation and the fact that it is constantly changing. Trustees also need to be mindful of the Regulator's Codes of Practice and other guidance materials which set out the standards expected of trustees.
How we can help
We advise trustees on what they must do in order to comply with the legal and regulatory requirements that apply to their scheme. We also advise trustees on their legal duties and on a variety of issues connected with pension scheme governance, including:
-
the role of the Pensions Regulator
-
how to manage conflicts of interest
-
notifiable events
-
trustees' investment powers and duties
-
the trustee knowledge and understanding requirement.
We also publish regular speedbriefs and run pensions briefings throughout the year which examine the latest developments in pensions law and practice.
